6500 fantray cooling configuration

Hello,

I have installed a new WS-6724-SFP line card in a WS-C6509 chassis and it will not come up due to the following error code:

%SYS-2-FAN_INSUFFICIENTCOOLING:Module 7 cannot be adequately cooled

HAVC6502> (enable) sh environment cooling

Chassis per slot cooling capacity : 37 cfm

Fan tray(s) cooling capacity :

Fan Model Ver Cooling Ambient FanStatus

capacity temp

---- ------------------- --- -------- ------- ---------

1 WS-C6K-9SLOT-FAN 1 340 cfm - ok

Slot cooling requirement :

Slot CardType Cooling

---- ------------------- -------

1 WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE 30 cfm

3 WS-X6408A-GBIC 30 cfm

4 WS-X6516-GBIC 30 cfm

5 WS-X6516-GBIC 30 cfm

6 WS-X6516A-GBIC 30 cfm

7 Unknown 70 cfm

8 WS-X6148-RJ-45 30 cfm

9 WS-X6324-100FX-MM 30 cfm

It appears that the chassis only provides 37cfm per slot for cooling, regardless of the line card demands. There is ample cooling available, but the maximum of 37cfm is a hard set restriction. Can this be configured to be increased to the 70 required by the line card? Or does this require an enhanced 6500 chassis?

Phil,

Ultimately your problem is that the 6700 series blades are only compatible with a sup720. More than that, a sup720 requires a high speed fan tray which is probably what the slot cards check for first.

You need a new sup and fan tray, but not necessarily an e-series chassis. CFM is not configurable to my knowledge.

Hope that helps.
