Hi there,
i'm planning to use shaping to the outside of an 100 Mbps link. The router should a vpn tunnel.
I found out tht both models can encrypt with the following speeds:
2851 until 100 Mbps
VPN AIM Modul
3825 until 140 Mbps
Process Switching | CEF Switching
Model PPS Mbps PPS Mbps EOS
2851 15,000 7.68 220,000 112.64 No
3825 25,000 12.8 350,000 179.20 No
I want to configure shaping on the VPN interface to the outside. Is there any limitation in hardwarequeuing or softwarequeueing i will face regarding the cpu power of these routers?
I could not find any document about shaping performance of both routers.
Thanks,
Frank

Hi,
Shaping is done in software. however, both models, and even smaller ones, are perfectly able to do what you want.
Hope this helps, please rate post if it does!

Hi p.bevilacqua,
thanks for your answer.
What would you suggest taking the 2851 or the 3825 with aim module. The 2851 is a bit cheaper but already at it limits with 100 Mbps encryption. The 3825 can encrypt tpcmix until 140 Mbps so there is a reserve. What would be the better choice regarding possbile upgrades in the future?
Thanks,
Frank
