i need help in implement a setup attached here with.

Two different subnets(172.16.1.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24) have to acces internet and other services(subnet 192.168.3.0/24). My all servers will be present in the subnet 192.168.3.0/24

What configurations are required at 2950 and 4503 switches ?? or i have to just configure the 4503 ??

Solution is highly customizable. so any option can b consider.

AT 4503 ip routing is enable, but can be diasbled if needed so.

I know the commands, just float your solutions / idea.

HI

What i can suggest is that u need to create a seprate vlan for u r servers.U need to enable routing on 4500 only u cannot do it on 2950 as its pure L2 switch.

Where u want u r new servers to be connected i hope on 4500.if u r going to connect them on 4500 then just create a vlan and a SVI u will be fine.

Thanks

Mahmood

so what will be the gateways on the hosts of each subnet?

Will it be their respective 2950(VLAN 1 IP), or the port of that specific subnet terminating on 4503. In the latter case i will be assigning IPs on the port of each subnet terminating on the 4503.

the gateway will be the routing interface address on the 4503 . 2950 being a layer 2 switch has no routing capability and any address on the 2950 is strictly for managing the switch itself and nothing else.

Oh i c..

It means every traffic of my subnet will be first going to 4503, bypassing the 2950. Is there any way i can contain my local traffic till 2950, not allowing to cross it 2950 if it destines for the same subnet ?

Anyhow, if i am giving 4503 respective ports as gateways on each host, is there any need to creates separate VLANs.I think IP-ROUITNG at 4503 will do the work. What u think ???

And by the way what will be the gateway at 4503, For example gateway of the internet traffic ?

Any ports on the 2950 that is in the same subnet (vlan) does not leave the 2950 it is all local traffic if everything is in vlan 1.If they have to talk to someone else on a different 2950 in vlan 1 then it will be handled at layer 2 at the 4503 and sent down to the other 2950 .If they have to talk "between" subnets then it must be routed at the 4503 such as your internet traffic . Your default route would be pointed to the proxy for internet .

My proxy server is on different subnet then the other subnets. How can i use e.g, 192.168.3.1/24 as default gateway for subnets 10.0.5.1/24 and 172.16.0.1/24. i mean default gateway must be of the same network.
