creating vlans

Answered Question
Oct 24th, 2007

my Cisco Press book for the ICND test says to create a vlan by going to (config)# and type vlan (#). Simple as that. But I just did a lab exercise on Cisco's website and it said to go to #vlan database and then create the vlan. So what is correct? Thanks for any advise.

Howdy,

Generally the vlan databse method is an older way of defining the vlan config - this was on the 2900 series switches.

Definng the vlan within global config came about with the 2950 series and later.

CCNA is supposed to be based largely on 2950 series.

Hope this helps
