Whenever I connect to my ASA5510 with the ASDM I have to log off after about 5 minutes as I have lost communications with it.
Is there a setting I need to change to stop this.

yes there is an option for it.
You can change it with the cli---
(config)#http timeout 30
means it will log off after 30 minutes.
