Hi all, are switches set up for this by default, i have seen some switches where they assign multicast groups to each port? what is this exactly doing here ,is it learning what multicast address they talk on then putting it in a group so only certain ports receive that traffic ?

Hi
Yeh this process is used to avoid flooding of traffic on all switch ports.this is the function of CGMP or IGMP Snooping.
Thanks
