Copper SFP and GBIC for GigE 15454E Cards

Hi Folks,

According to the documenationon on the Cisco site it appears that the GE 4 port CE card (15454-CE-1000-4)and the GE 2 port ML card (15454E-ML1000-2)only supports optical GBIC/SFPs.

I would like to connect these interfaces into a Cat switch which has 1GE copper interfaces. Does anyone know whether the copper GBIC/SFP will work with these cards?

Also would you know whether the 4 port CE card works in the 15454E chassis. The documentation seems to indicate that it does but there does not seem to be a 15454E item code for the card.

Cheers,

Phil

If memory serves me, the copper GBICs were tested but failed due to power draw as well as the physical design of the GBICs would not allow adjacent cards to be pulled nor the door to close.

The 15454-CE-1000-4 card works in either SONET or SDH system (Cisco was trying to reduce part numbers).

The only 15454 cards listed as compatible with the 1000BaseT SFP (ONS-SE-ZE-EL) are the ML-MR-10 & CE-MR-10, per the reference guide (url below).

Hi - Thanks for the reply. That was most useful.

In the case of the ML card which is SFP based would you happen to know whether there is a 1G copper SPF that the card supports?

Cheers,

Phil

Thanks

Phil,

Just a quick note that the two cards mentioned above, ML-MR-10 and CE-MR-10, are only compatible with the latest software release of 8.5.
