Solved: Cultural Question : how to say WLAN

Hi all,

being a non-native speaker and doing an English presentation soon, I wonder if "WLAN" is often used instead of "Wireless LAN" or just "Wireless".

The pronouncation of WLAN as "double-u-LAN" sounds odd to me - I'd prefer to speak of "wireless", but OTOH I want to follow best practice.

How is it done in US / UK ?

Excellent question :) Most people I know and everything I have heard in any presentation use this pronunciation;

WLAN - sounds actually like a Y in front of Lan

Y-LAN or WI-LAN

Hi Rob,

thanks a lot, so they basically speak the "Wi" and drop the "reless" part :D, sounds logical.

I'm glad there is no holy war like in router (like in ouch) vs. router (like in root) *g*.

Im from East Tennessee guys and we are a little southern and redneck. We say dubya lan. Of course our APs are mounted on the sides of barns as well.

Hey Dennis,

5 points for this nice touch of levity and humor. Most of our AP's run into temperature problems due to being mounted on Igloos :)

In Ohio its typically verbally heard as wireless lan. Most of our APs are ran into by forklift problems... Funny but true.

Rob, Least you guys learned to mount them high enough where the penguins cant mess with em. But what about the polar bears?
