I have one PIX 501 whose configuration am trying to copy to TFTP before upgrading the activation key to allow for VPN-3DES, however, i find that i cant run
copy flash tftp
and the only available commands are "copy capture: <capture-name> tftp:"
How does the copy capture work, and can i use it to copy my config and/or flash to tftp ?

Hi Mark
From config mode try
write net 192.168.5.1:pixbackup.cfg
where 192.168.5.1 is the address of the tftp server and pixbackup.cfg is the name of the file you want to save.

Mark, here is a link with instructions on how to for PIX/ASA.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/vpndevc/ps2030/products_tech_note09186a008072142a.shtml#req
to back up config
"write net tftp_IP:pix-506-congig"
you can copy config to tftp and restore config from tftp to pix, but you cannot copy pix code to tftp, you can download new code from tftp to pix flash.. e.g " copy tftp flash"
