All of sudden, my console password is gone.
When the router says..."Cisco2651XM con0 is now available, Press RETURN to get started."
When I hit return it does not prompt me for the console password and yet in my config, the console password is there.
It used to worked. Any ideas? Thanks

Did you enable aaa new-model ?

aaa new-model takes over any line authentication and relies on local username authentication (when configured).

Is the login command there ?

I did enable aaa new-model from the SDM. I was playing with the VPN, as this is a home router. However I reloaded the router without a write. In my sh run.. it does showed.. no aaa new-model.
After work today, everything is fine again.
How does aaa new-model affect my con 0 password?
Thanks again!!!

Do you meant to say that if i configured console login name and password and username and password for local login through vty then aaa new-model will force to take username and password configured for vty to gain access ?

Once you enable aaa new-model, the authentication prompt changes from
Password:
to
Username: and Password:
If you haven't configured an username and password,
(username [username] privilege 15 password [password])
guess what ? You get locked out.
