When to use "terminal history size 25" and "history size 25"?

My Boson simulator and the Sybex simulator does not support this command!

I have this problem too.

The "history size x" command is used in line configuration mode. It sets the buffer for commands according to the variable (x). If you put in "history size 5" when connected through vty 0, then the "show history" command will only show the last 5 commands you've entered. Using this command will also place an entry in your running config.

The "terminal history size x" command is used in exec mode. It sets the buffer size for the current session only. For example, if you had configured the history size to be 5 as above, and logged into the device through vty 0 and entered "terminal history size 10", then the buffer would remember the last 10 commands instead of just 5. If you logged out of the device and logged back in, the buffer would be back at 5 as previously configured. So the "terminal history size x" command just changes the buffer for the currently logged in session, and it does not alter your running config.

Hope that helps.
