Windows Vista DHCP issue through ASA 5510

I had a client contact me today to say that when a PC running Windows tries to get an IP address via DHCP, it fails. I found this KB article on Microsoft's site (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233) for a fix and other info that said it will be resolved in SP1. However, in a thread I was reading on another forum, MS is claiming Vista's DHCP client is in compliance with the RFC.

At any rate, does any know how to get Vista clients to communication through an ASA without using the fix? This seems like a new issue that is just cropping up.

TIA for your help.

The WINS & DNS values from the external DHCP server will never be passed through the ASA to the L2tp client, this is by design.

You have to configure the WINS and DNS address' in the group-policy.

ASA(config-group-policy)# wins-server value

ASA(config-group-policy)# dns value

In this example, the IP address will be assigned from the DHCP server

and the other address's will be passed down from the ASA.
