Catalyst 2955 and Power Industry Application & Regulatory Approvals

Have been using Catalyst 2955 switches for two years in Hydro Generator Control panels for a local control network in a Hydro Power Plant and Substation.

Our communications technician implied the Catalyst 2955 switches are not approved for use in the Power Industry per “Power Engineering” publication testing and now wishes to replace Catalyst 2955 switches with SIXNET switches.

Can CISCO provide regulatory information for use of Catalyst 2955 switches in the Power Industry?

More specifically does The Catalyst 2955 swith comply with IEC 61850 and IEEE 1613?

It doesn't comply with the standard. But the robust mechanical specifications allow for its deployment as a mobile platform and under extreme vibration and shock environments (50G trapezoidal shock pulse). It is meant to withstand harsh conditions. Refer URL http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps6738/products_data_sheet09186a008017ae6f.html
