6509-E Power-Capacity

We have recently acquired a new 6509-E configured with two 6000W power supplies (currently one is disconnected). The power details are shown below:

6509-E#sh power

system power redundancy mode = redundant

system power redundancy operationally = non-redundant

system power total = 3780.00 Watts (90.00 Amps @ 42V)

system power used = 1821.96 Watts (43.38 Amps @ 42V)

system power available = 1958.04 Watts (46.62 Amps @ 42V)

Power-Capacity PS-Fan Output Oper

PS Type Watts A @42V Status Status State

---- ------------------ ------- ------ ------ ------ -----

1 WS-CAC-6000W 3780.00 90.00 OK OK on

2 WS-CAC-6000W 3780.00 90.00 - - off

Another engineer has recently said that we need to look at this as, and I quote here, "the switch seems to think it only has the standard capacity of a 6509 and not the enhanced one that it is. i.e. 3800W instead of 14700W".

Having never looked into the power configuration on a 6509-E before, I am a little bit stumped. I assume that he is referring to the Power-Capacity figure of 3780W, but I have not been able to find any documentation that details the expected figures for the 6000W or 8000W power supplies in the 6509 or 6509-E chassis.

If anyone can clarify any of this for me, or just point me towards some relevant documents, it would be much appreciated.

Please check the datasheet for this power supply:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/switches/ps708/products_data_sheet0900aecd801c5c84.html

Under "Features & Benefits" it says: Compatible with full output in Cisco Catalyst 6506-E, Catalyst 6509-E, and Catalyst 6513 switches. Works in Catalyst 6506 and Catalyst 6509 with a maximum output of 4000W.

OK, so if I'm reading this correctly, the 6000W supply should be able to provide ~6000W in a 6509-E, but ours are only showing the reduced output of 4000W that would be expected in a standard 6509.

Do you know if there are any other requirements to get the full 6000W; IOS version, etc.?
