What exactly do you mean ?

To trace a route you need routing in the first place - something that does not happen at L2.

Can you describe what you're looking for ?

At a Fluke seminar they were able to traceroute to a PC on the LAN. And that got me to thinking that there's gotta be a software out there that does a L2 traceroute.

I know that a regular trace uses L3 and that's the rub. Gary

how about just checking the mac-address-table and then following it down the trunk links until you get to the right switch?

there are also many open source apps that do this too such as netdisco, switchmap, nedi and the mactrack plugin for Cacti. I am probably missing a few more.

those are what I was thinking of but didn't know their names.

Thanks, Gary
