All, When I add an extension as a shared line on a 7914, when an call comes in on that extension, the call rings on the receptionist phone as well. How can I prevent that?

im thinking thats how the shared line is supposed to operate. Normally ill use BLF on the 7914.

where is BLF in version 4.0?

Hi Rob,
Just to add a note to the good info from Arvind. There are no BLF settings in CCM 4.0. Have you tried this setting for each Shared Line appearance on the 7914;
Line Settings for this Device
Ring Setting (Phone Idle) Flash Only
Ring Setting (Phone Active) Flash Only
This way the Extension that the person with the 7914 is monitoring will only Flash and not Ring on the 7914. Usually a very helpful thing for the Admin person.
Hope this helps!

yea, I have tried that, but the call shows on the display of the receptionist 7960 phone though. I just want the button beside the extension to flash and change color as the action is different.

Hi Rob,
Sorry man, but,the feature you need DSS/BLF is available in CCM 5.x (and later) as well as CME.
Unfortunately, not in any earlier versions of CCM. So you have the either/or choice that you have seen. Eitherconfigure the Button as a Shared Line (to see the status) or as a Speeddial for quick Transfers :(
In CCM 5.x this is a traditional BLF (Busy Lamp Field) which is used to monitor On/Off Hook, Busy/Idle conditions on users phones, as well as having a Speeddial functionality for fast dialing and Transfers. These keys can't be used to answer actual calls.
Cisco Unified CallManager Speed Dial Presence
Cisco Unified CallManager supports the ability for a speed dial to have presence capabilities via a busy lamp field (BLF) speed dial. BLF speed dials work as both a speed dial and a presence indicator.Only the system administrator can configure a BLF speed dial; a system user is not allowed to configure a BLF speed dial.
States are:
Idle
Busy
Unknown
This differs from the "Old" Shared line appearance setups in the CCM 3.X and 4.X trains that you are running into.
For CME the feature is called DSS/BLF (direct station select/busy lamp field) where you have basically a speed-dial button that also lights up when the person is on the phone.
Hope this helps!

hmm. I have another CM 4.0. that location does not have DID and the 7914 on there shows the extension and changes color as needed, but that doesnt ring on the receptionist phone. It just shows on the 7914 side car.

Rob,
Will an upgrade from CCM 4 to CCM 5 allow a BLF scenario to be used or do you have to have the Presence server?
Regards,
Kerrie

BLF works well on CCM5 without presence server.
11-21-2007 03:20 PM
Thank you for replying, does DSS work as well? I should have asked the question for both BLF/DSS.

Hi Kerrie,
Sorry for the delay :) Yes, both DSS and BLF are supported natively.
Unified CM Presence Guidelines
Unified CM enables the system administrator to configure and control user presence capabilities from within Unified CM Administration. The Cisco Unified Presence Server is used for Instant Messaging and Presence Leveraging Extensions (SIMPLE) to provide a common demarcation and point for integrating all SIP or SIMPLE applications into the Cisco Unified Communications System.
Unified CM Speed Dial Presence
Unified CM supports the ability for a speed dial to have presence capabilities via a busy lamp field (BLF) speed dial. BLF speed dials work as both a speed dial and a presence indicator. However, only the system administrator can configure a BLF speed dial; a system user is not allowed to configure a BLF speed dial.
The administrator must configure the BLF speed dial with a target directory number that is resolvable to a directory number within the Unified CM cluster or a SIP trunk destination. BLF SIP line-side endpoints can also be configured with a SIP URI for the BLF speed dial, but SCCP line-side endpoints cannot be configured with a SIP URI for BLF speed dial. The BLF speed dial indication is a line-level indication and not a device-level indication.
The following Cisco Unified IP Phones support BLF speed dial for SCCP:
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7914G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7940G
Cisco Unified IP Phone 7960G
Cisco Unified IP Phones 7941G and 7941G-GE
Cisco Unified IP Phones 7961G and 7961G-GE
Cisco Unified IP Phones 7970G and 7971G-GE
The following Cisco Unified IP Phones support BLF speed dial for SIP:
Cisco Unified IP Phones 7941G and 7941G-GE
Cisco Unified IP Phones 7961G and 7961G-GE
Cisco Unified IP Phones 7970G and 7971G-GE
The Cisco Unified IP Phones 7905, 7906, 7911, and 7912 do not support BLF speed dial.
Hope this helps!

Thanks Rob, I had to make sure I don't need a Presence Server with CCM5 to get the BLF working.
11-21-2007 11:50 PM
What do you mean by DSS?
11-22-2007 05:33 AM
Hi Anton,
Sorry about that, I shouldn't really use that name here as it is really associated with CME. Old habits die hard!
DSS (Direct Station Select) Service
In Cisco Unified CME 4.0(2) and later versions, the DSS (Direct Station Select) Service feature allows the phone user to press a single speed-dial line button to transfer an incoming call when the call is in the connected state. This feature is supported on all phones on which monitor line buttons for speed dial or speed-dial line buttons are configured.
When the DSS service is enabled, the system automatically generates a simulated transfer key event when needed, eliminating the requirement for the phone user to press the Transfer button.
In this case, for CCM, the terminology really should be "BLF speed dial" :)
Hope this helps!
