CSS:Adding routes on management LAN

Can we add host specific routes or add any routing protocols on the Mgmt VLAN?

We have our sntp server accessible the Mgmt router, and we are trying to define a static route to access it.

It is possible to add static routes for management port but you cannot use it for SNTP.

You can configure a maximum of eight static routes for the Ethernet management port.

(config)# ip management route 10.10.90.0 /24 10.10.10.1

When using static routes for managing the CSS from subnets beyond the management LAN, the Ethernet management port doesnt support CDP, DNS, SNTP, and TACACs.

Supported protocols from subnets beyond the management vlan are SSH,telnet,snmp,ftp and Syslog.

Later I found this in the configuration guide:

"When using static routes for managing the CSS from subnets beyond the

management LAN, the Ethernet management port supports the previous list of

management applications, except CDP, DNS, SNTP, and TACACs.".

Any reason why this is not supported? What would be the suggested workaround?

Soumya,

The limitation on the management port of the CSS are hardware related, therefore this is not going to be changed. As you this port can be set only at 10Mbps/Half Duplex and as mentioned before is not able to handle certain protocols.

If using any of this protocols is a must you will need to use one of the regular Fast Ethernet interfaces of the CSS. Even when they are meant to be used for production, you have no limitation to use them for management purposes.
