Hi, I have connected the GBIC port on a 3508G-XL to a 2950 FastEthernhet port, however, the ports are not coming up. I have tried straight through and crossover cables. Please could someone advise wheter the 2 switches can be connected and using which cables.

Your advice is much appreciated.

Thanks

You can't connect a 1000BaseT GBIC to a FastEthernet interface. The 1000BaseT GBIC's (WS-G5483) only operate at 1Gbps. You will need a 1000BaseT interface on your 2950 to connect it to, there are no other options with the 3508G-XL. I assume you have a 2950 that only has 10/100 FastEthernet interfaces?

Thanks for the comment. Yes, the 2950 only has 10/100 interfaces. Thanks for clearing that one up.

Hi,

Do you know if there is any kind of imcompability with 3750 and 3560.

Scenario (test environment):

A 3750 (routing) and a 3560(access ports on vlan 95 and 96)

Trunk - 3750 using a fastethernet port and 3560 gig SFP.

If I connect a host on vlan 95, I can ping all interface vlans on the 3750 (management, vlan 95 and 96).

If I connect same host on vlan 96, can't not even ping the default gateway.

Also can ping all interfaces on 3750 from the 3560.

If I connect trunks at 1000 (SFP) both hosts can ping interfaces on 3750.

Trunks have exactly the same config (using fa or gig) and access ports too.

Any clues?

Sounds like the trunk is not even up and is up as access link only , verify with a show interface trunk . Both sides should look the same with this command . If still a problem post the interface commands from both sides

Trunk seems to be ok. The funny thing is that I can ping interfaces on the 3750 from the 3560, which means the trunk is working.

See attach.
