F6748-CFC card does not get power

Hi All,

We have got Cat6509 switch with Sup720 and 12.2(17a)SX IOS. There are already two WS-F6748-DFC3B blades in this switch working absolutely fine. We have got a new WS-F6748-CFC blade and have plugged it in slot 3. In "show module" the new card is present and the "power module 3" command was accepted. But the card does not get any power at all and "show power module 3" command reports that the blade is plugged in, its administrative status is up but its power status is down (in brackets it also says "not supported"). Does anybody know if we are supposed to do something different to make the switch to provide power for the 6748-CFC blade?

Thanks.

You have 2 DFC cards and 1 CFC card in that chassis. You can check the fabric mode settings

"show fabric". If the mode was set to only support DFC cards, your CFC card my not come up.

Also check to see if you have enough power "show power".

We'll try this, thanks a lot!

Here is the "show fabric" output. Does it look all right for the CFC blade to operate?

Hi,

The key problem here is the "not supported" output, although I'm not sure why that would be the case if you already have two similar modules working ok. The IOS you are using is pretty old and you might want to upgrade that in any case - it may be necessary to get the new card working.

Andrew.
