We have multiple 2960 in the field and are having issue holding the Vlan1 ip address. Seems that after a period of time if the switch gets rebooted 1 or 2 things happen. The switch loses it's entire config or the ip address that is assigned to the vlan1 interfaces disappears. All of the ones in the field have the same configuration. Has anyone heard about this? The IOS code is:

I have not heard of such a problem. I presume you do save your configurations (copy run start) each time you do any changes?
Or do you perhaps configure from a TFTP server? Do you have service config anywhere in your configuration?
What is in your config register? Could you do a show version please?

Hi Tom, I have a similar scenario. I have 2950's and 2960's that either lose their configurations or simply stop responding to a ping although they continue to function as a switch when that happens. Keep in mind the config could also be erased by holding in the mode button for too long. I have not seen any remedy for a few months now on this forum as to why they stop responding. A Cisco case may have to be opened to get the right attention, unless someone can reply to this thread?

We have not seen this problem and we have a lot of 2950's but it rings a bell and I think it was a code issue if the code is really old. We are running 12.1.22ea10 and have been for some time and have not seen an issue , my reccomendation would be to upgrade the code to the latest release. Have never seen a box lose the config unless you have unstable power where it goes down , starts come back and then quickly goes down again , we have seen a router or 2 where it loses the config in nvram.

Hi Tom,
I have an almost identical issue in that I am losing all configuration and going back to the initial config dialogue.

If it's rebooting then chances are there's a crashinfo file(s).
Post the last three files.
