Upgrade to IPS version 6?

I have a new IPS with an ASA (SSM-20) it came preloaded with version 5.1(6)E1. Should I upgrade to IPS software 6? Is it worthwhile to do this before I go into production with the module?

Yes, I would certainly upgrade it.

There are only a few advantages with upgrading to 6.x (like virtual sensors) but by and large the behavior & signatures are going to be the same. I would prefer to stay on the 5.x line of code simply because it has been out in the field longer.

HI,

I have ASA-SSM 10 with 7.1(6)E4 IOS and want upgrade to 7.1(7)E4.

Can anyone help me to know the backup plan for this, as 7.1(7)E4 is uninstallable and downgradable.

Your backup plan would be to reimage the sensor from scratch with the OS version of your choice.
