Voice messages time stamps

Is there a way in Unity to shorten the time Unity ends a recorded message when it hears silence. The issue we are having is the users are having to listen to 30 seconds of silence before they get to the end of the message and hear the timestamp.

Hi Robert,

Because Unity cannot use Silence Detection with g.729a the only change can be done for the users themselves;

Changing What Cisco Unity Plays Before and After a Message

By default, Cisco Unity plays information about a message and the message sender before and after playing the message. You can change what you hear and when you hear it by using the Cisco Unity Assistant.

You can specify whether you want Cisco Unity to play all, none, or a combination of the following options before each message:

Sender's Information If available, Cisco Unity plays the recorded name of the subscriber who sent a message. Depending on how Cisco Unity is set up, it may also play either the phone number of an unidentified caller (if available) or the extension of the subscriber who sent the message.

Message Number Cisco Unity announces the sequential number of a message. (For example, "Message 1, a voice message...Message 2, a voice message...")

Although you can turn off message counts in the Cisco Unity Assistant, it is handy to know how many messages you have. (This is especially true for saved messages as you can skip ahead or back to a particular saved message by entering the message number.)

Time the Message

Was Sent Cisco Unity announces the day, date, and time that a message was sent.

To Change What Cisco Unity Plays Before and After a Message

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step 1 In the Cisco Unity Assistant, on the Preferences menu, click Message Playback.

Step 2 Scroll down to the Before Playing Each Message Play section, and check or uncheck any or all of the following check boxes to specify what information Cisco Unity plays before each message:

Sender's Information

Message Number

Time the Message Was Sent

Step 3 In the After Playing Each Message Play section, check or uncheck the Time the Message Was Sent check box to specify whether Cisco Unity plays the message time stamp before playing each message.

Step 4 Click Save.

If you are using the "Standard" Conversation the user should be able to Press # to skip to the end of the Message;

Hi Robert,

Here is some related info;

For g.711

Silence Detection

Cisco Unity disconnects after it hears a specified amount of silence. Cisco Unity recognizes that the caller has stopped the conversation. You can set silence detection settings on the SA in the System > Configuration > Recordings page. By default, Cisco Unity stops recording when it detects two seconds of silence at the time of recordings shorter than ten seconds in length, and three seconds when a recording is longer than ten seconds. Cisco Unity prompts the caller to press 1 or 2 in order to disconnect or continue to record. When Cisco Unity ends the recording process due to silence detection, it trims the silence at the end of the message. This process is automatic and does not require the activation of any special setting in the switch configuration file.

For g.729a

Audio Codecs That Cisco Unity Uses for Calls

For the media stream for calls, Cisco Unity supports the following audio codec formats:

G.711 Mu-Law

G.729a

Note When the G.729a codec is used, Cisco Unity cannot perform silence detection. Using this codec may result in messages that have long trailing silence or that are entirely silent.

Thanks for the links.

We are using G.729a across a WAN link. Is there anything to help with the long trailing silence?
