Cisco Compatible SFPs

Unanswered Question

Hi -

I didn't see this topic addressed anywhere in this forum, so I thought I'd start a thread here. I'm seeing several companies advertising "Cisco-compatible" SFPs, most prominently Transition Networks. Are these SFPs either endorsed by Cisco or part of some licensing agreement, or is it more like the issue with printer ink cartridges where someone has "cracked the code"?

I have this problem too.

No other manufacturers SFP's are officially supported in Cisco equipment. We run into problems with gray market "cisco" products (bought from reseller) that we stay away from anything but the real thing.
