DNS Question

Whats the purpose of configuring the "IP name server" command and then disabling DNS with the "no ip domain lookup" command?

Am I right to say that if the "no ip domain lookup" command is there that DNS is off?

Im asking because I want to reference host names for the SNMP, tacacs and logging host commands....

example:

tacacs host host1.whatever.whatever2

ip name server tells the router what DNS server to use if DNS is enabled. You are correct that no ip domain lookup turns off name resolution on the router. If you want to use names you can either use DNS or us the ip host command.
