I have a 7985G IP Phone which is not powering up after connecting it to a 3500 XL Inline power switch..This switch only supports Cisco Prestandard PoE. The datasheet specifically states that the phone can be powered using IEEE 802.3af from this link..

However the FAQ Doc on PoE says that it can pe powered using Cisco Prestandard PoE from this link....
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/phones/ps379/products_qanda_item09186a00808996f3.shtml#qa3.
So which document do I believe? Also can there any other reason why my Phone wont come up except for the the unsupported PoE on the switch?

7985 does not support Cisco Pre-Standard PoE. Looks like a documentation defect and I'd work on getting this fixed.
You would need IEEE Inline Power capable switch.
Hope this helps
