Swap out the 1924-XL for a 2950. upgrade the memory in the 2503 and 2610. Don't forget to add a terminal server (add a 2511 w/ octal)

Then you're all set for a decent starter lab.

I opted for a different 'console' server.

I purchased an extra usb card and usb-to-serial adapters and made a bunch of roll over cables. So now I just open a bunch of different tabs in securecrt. This has a couple minor disadvantages over a true 25xx term server though.

1. most people use the console server to also inject routes (as a backbone router)

2. you don't get the 'experience' of getting used to the ctrl-shift-6-x key sequence.

2511s are so cheap these days. Not only can you use them as a term server, but you can use them as a Backbone router to inject routes into your network or use it as a two-port FR switch. It's a GREAT addition to ANY home lab.

For the terminal server, you will want to buy a cisco 2511 or 2509 router with octal cable and ethernet xcvr.

Why not use simulation instead...?

Dynamips - Dynagen - GNS3 (search google)
