Hello, I'm currently studying for my CCENT exam in hopes to go all the way to CCSP and ever beyond one day and I'm looking for good advice on the following questions:

1. Once I have the CCNA, should I first go for CCNP and then for the CCSP or should I go straight for the CCSP?

2. For a hone lab, are the 1700 series routers with support for SDM good enough? I looked the different models and some of them are pretty nice with support for exchangeable WIC cards and so on.

Thank you,

1) If your goal is CCSP and then CCIE Security, sure, go right for CCSP after CCNA

2) No, a 1700 isn't the best choice for a home lab as it wont run enterprise IOS. I would suggest a 2610XM. Although a 1700 is better than nothing! :)

Its up to the individual's interest in either routers & switches or firewalls, VPN's,IPS etc. For the earlier case CCNP & then CCIE -R&S are the career paths. While for the later CCSP & CCIE - Security is the path.
