Hi,

we would like to config 802.1q on 2610 router. We have 21 VLAN. default, 10 VLAN for different department PCs and 10 VLAN for different department IP phones.

Does it support around 300 users with 21 VLAN? Any performance issue?

Yes, you can configure that many VLANs, the issue is that you won't be able to route at wire speed between VLANs. Expect like 10 Mbps or less and very high CPU usage.

Because of this, it's recommended to use a layer 3 switch, like the 3560 8-port, for inter-vlan routing.

So you want to do routing on a stick with a 10MBs connection with all those VLANs? Not sure, but you could run into performance/bandwidth issues shoving a lot of traffic down the 10MBs link. What are you trying to accomplish?

a 2610 doesnt have an FE port. It just has a single ethernet 10MBs port.

Hi,

I am not sure the model numbr of 2600 router. it has one FE card

NM-1FE2W/ and NM-1FE2W-V2 1-port 10/100 Ethernet 2 WAN Card Slot Network Module

2600 does support 100M FE. If I config VLAN, does it have performace issue? if yes, I will change to 4700 or high end router

an nm-2fe-2w and an NM-1FE2W-V2 doesn't work in a 2600 (unless it's a 2691). read the info in the link that you posted under "Table 3. Maximum number of network modules that are supported in the 2600, 2691, 3600, 3700 and 3800 families is shown below.."

depends, how much traffic you're trying to pass down the single pipe. the router cpu itself will not have performance issues, it's the size of the pipe at 100MBs passing mulitple traffic between VLANs that you have to worry about. go ahead, set it up, and watch the bandwidth on the interface. if you are passing a lot of traffic back and forth between the VLANs, you're going to run into issues and should consider an L3 switch (like pete said above).
