ccm4.0(2a) upgrade to ccm 5.x question

Hi,

Customer has ccm 4.0(2a) cluster with 2 servers. Want to upgrade them to ccm 5.1x version on two new servers.

According to the software compatibility matrix at http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/compat/ccmcompmatr.xls, and other cisco documentation, I have a few questions:

(1) Can we directly upgrade 4.0(2a) to CCM 5.1(1) or CCM 5.1(2) instead of going to CCM 5.0(4x) as mentioned by cisco other document.

(2) On the above compatibility matrix, under version ccm4.0(2a), there is no compatibile DMA version can be installed on the publisher server, so which DMA version we can use?

Thanks,

JJ

From the CCM compatibility matrix you can go directly from 4.0(2a) to 5.1(1) or 5.1(2)

DMA 5.1(1) supports CCM 4.0(x)

Basically what you need to do is this

1. Download and Install DMA on the Publisher

2. Run DMA

3. Verify that DMA validation is succesful

4. Copy the DMA tar data to a safe location.

5. Install cmm 5.1(x) on the new servers.

6. During the Installation, You will be asked if you want the installation wizard, say yes

7. The installation wizard then guides you, at some point you will be asked if you want to do a windos upgrade, click yes.

8. You will then (later) be asked to chosed the media of uploading the DMA data...choose the type you want, I did use an FTP server

9. You will also be asked to put the location, file name, if u areusing ftp you will be asked for username and password for ftp server.

And that is it.

Hope this helps.

Hi JJ,

I'm pretty sure that the upgrade paths from 4.0(2a) are as follows;

4.0(2a) to 5.0(4) = Direct

4.0(2a) to 5.1.x = Via 4.1(3) *Two Steps

4.0(2a) to 6.0.x = Direct

Have a close look at this excellent doc;

Cisco CallManager Upgrade Paths and Cisco Unified Communications Product Names

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps556/products_tech_note09186a008086cc7c.shtml

As you probably have seen, the documentation on this question is very sketchy, but if you look very closely at all the DMA References with 5.1 they always only mention CCM 4.1(3).

That being said, I think your path to CCM 5.0(4) would use this DMA Tool;

Release Notes for Data Migration Assistant Release 5.0(4)

Hope this helps!
