Cisco 871 outside interface dropping connection

I have an 871 right out of the box. Hooked up a VPN to our corporate site and it seems after a while the outside interface drops the connection to the dynamically assigned adsl connection. Happens within hours and somtimes minutes of no traffic. Reloading the router reconnects and everything is great for a while. Anyone else have this issue? THanks in advance.

Hi, this can be due to a software bug, you would need access to IOS download (requires service contract) to upgrade to latest 12.4XJ ?

As an alternative, you can try upgrading the DSL firmware, this does not requires registered access:

ftp://ftp.cisco.com/pub/access/800

The FW you want is 3.0.x, there is a document to explain how to install it.

Its an 871 using an external adsl modem, should I still use the upgrade? I think its only for the routers with adsl built in but I may be wrong.

Sorry, you are right, I've mixed up the models. In light of the fact it's an 871, it's strange that it drops the internet connection entirely.

Could you post up the config for us to see to make sure everything is done properly?
