Can the 3845 do VPN and Firewalling at the same time. Is this done via software or does the router comes with something installed internally.

Hi
Yes, it can do both at the same time. VPN acceleration is built in and you can also get AIM for further VPN accleration.
CBAC (the IOS firewall) is done in software.
