Spanning uplink fast is run on switches which are dually connected to 2 distribution or core switches of which one is a root. It helps in reducing the delay in converging the STP topology when the root port has failed. This reduces the convergence time for 40 sec to just 1 sec.

Ifyou are asking about running the feature on trunks between 2 DS siwtches which are root & backup root, then you need the backbonefast feature.

Ali,

Uplinkfast can be enabled even in Distribution switches but mostly the implementation is done in such a way that the DS's are the roots of soanning tree and hence have all ports in designated state.

Uplinkfast helps only those switches when they have a blocked port and there is a failure on the root port which is mostly on the access switch connecting to the core/Distribution
