CS 3.1: Invalid IP address or server name for mail server (CSCsg02991)

When trying to set the SMTP server in System Preferences I get the following message:

Invalid IP address or server name for mail server.

This bug is a known bug in CS 3.0, problem is that is should be fixed in 3.1

I can telnet the SMTP server (Exchange) on port 25, and actually it does work in DFM.

There is no upgrade available through software update so I am quite stuck.

The bug is fixed in CS 3.0.6 which is already out. You can download it through the Common Services > Software Center, or from Cisco.com.

Maybe I misunderstood. Do you currently have LMS 3.0? If so, this bug should be fixed. I have seen one case on Windows where this problem was still occurring. If you do have CS 3.1, please post your smtp.log.

Yes sorry I wasn't that clear. I am running LMS 3.0 so CS 3.1 (windows indeed). Mail server is Exchange. here is the extract of smtp.log for an configuration attempt:

This is what I saw before. I will have to rework the SMTP test code. In the meantime, if you are careful, you can manually edit NMSROOT/MDC/etc/regdaemon.xml, and adjust the value of SMTPServerName manually. The default is localhost, and you can set this to your actual SMTP server's hostname then restart dmgtd.

Make sure you back this file up BEFORE making any changes to it.
