IPv6 on 3845 Router

Unanswered Question
Dec 14th, 2007

HI - have been running IPv6 traffic from Ixia thu our 3845 on a 1gig copper interface. If I do more than 25% I get packet loss and the CPU on the Cisco is over 80%. Do I need to make some configuration changes, or is the 3845 too "small" for IPv6? Any help appreciated.

I have this problem too.

If you pump ipv6 packets of lesser size, it will consume more cpu comparing to larger packet size.

What is the packet size you are pumping from Ixia?

Hi Mark,

With packet size = 68, it is expected that CPU will be maxed out before line rate. Normally testing will be done with different packet size from and average internet packet size is expected to be around 350 - 400 bytes.
