I've got a Catalyst Switch:
Device type: WS-C3560G-48TS
Software version: 12.2(25)SEE-IP-BASE-CRYPTO
I'm told I'd better upgrade the firmware. So I've got to its page, that I suppose is here:
But I must admit that I'm very lost in this page. At this very moment of writing, it has 12.2.40-SE(ED), 12.2.25-SEE4(ED) and 12.2.25-SED1(ED) and those in "All releases".
My problem is that I don't know how to read those codes. What's the difference between SE, SEE and SED? Just some sequence code like 1, 2, 3? And I just need to download the highest one, ie 12.2.40-SE(ED)?
And when I click the it, I've got a lot of things. I'm just lost... Help, please
Btw, could anyone give me any link to any page talking about the precautions before upgrading the firmware, and the steps to do the upgrade, please?

The higher the number the later the code. Once you click on 12.2.40-SE(ED) a menu on the right will appear. You need to determine if your running IP services on your switch and if you want the web manager (or do you just use the CLI) and a crypto image for things like SSH. If you post a "show version", we can help you on what image to download. Here's a link on the upgrade procedure.
HTH and please rate.

I use rarely the CLI via telnet. I mostly use the Cisco Network Assistant to do configurations. I didn't know there's a web manager. It's a switch, so does SSH make sense in this situation?
Thanks in advance.

You can never go wrong with the crypto image. Here's a link to the image you need.
If you're using CNA, just stick with that and don't worry about the web manager.

I don't understand. The version of the switch, as I've pasted here, is Version 12.2(25)SEE.
Why did you point me to 12.2.40-SE image? I mean, could someone tell me what these SE, SEE, SED mean? How to decrypt these? Are they compatible with each other?

Yup they will always tell you to get the latest one because if you have a problem that will be the first thing they tell you to do.

I've got spanning-tree problem that disabled some ports for a long while. I had to use CLI to unblock the situation. So I hope updating the firmware could prevent this from happening again in the future.
