Hi all, can anyone tell me the diff between

pptp , l2tp, and ipsec

are they all encryption standards or tunneling standards i am a little confused here.

hope you can help

pptp and l2tp = tunneling protocols

ipsec = suite of encryption protocols

In addition to Roberts resource that I think is great to have here are few links for reference. I recommend to take a read on each of these individually, you will be surpirce after reading these you will have not confutions.

does ipsec use tunnelling standard? or is it purely encryption and does not need a tunnel ?

can someone help me here? I have just set up an ipsec tunnel between 2 sites using my asa's, its this using L2TP with ipsec, or is the tunnel pure ip sec, no l2pt involved ?
