Question:

I have a router that has received a spike in CPU% 74%.

it's a layer 2/3 switch to a L3 router with 1 1GB connection.

I am saying it has something to do with the routers routing configuration..

problem with static routes could this be the problem??

PUNT packets, process switching packets, Access-lists with LOG or log-input keyword can cause high utlization by IP INPUT process.

I was leaning towards that answer as well, but my colleagues are saying that there is something wrong with the routers routing config, something to do with Static routes..

they are wrong.. right?

Hi,

Routing loop, too many ACL (also two ACL accidentally configured in one interface) are some factors that will cause high cpu util. Can you post the config and "show proc cpu"?

Dandy
