EtherChannel

Ok,

Senario..

1. I have a L2/L3 switch that runs IOS Version 12.2(25)EWA6 (Cisco 4500 series).

2. I have 2 1Gb links going to a 7609 Core router.

3. One of the links is being utilized the other not, the reason is because the isis metric on the unutilized link it higher the the one being utilized.

Question:

Is it possible to run EtherChannel?

Would it be benefitial?

I guess the reason I would like to perform this task is for load balancing.

Would this also releave some presure on the Cat Switch?

Please let me know what you think..

Hi, unless one single link is insufficient for the carried traffic, there is no appreciable benefit beside a marginal added redundancy.

Though can be done, it is better to tune the IS-IS metric so that the metric is seen as same on both the links

The 4500 would then loadbalance automatically

Thanks, I thought about that but would STP be an issue???

Are you using routed ports in your 4506 to connect to the 76xx?

Narayan

I have IOS running on both.

When you are routing, theres no STP.

I guess there isn't a benefit the same result will occur if I make the metric of isis the same as the other link?? correct??

I just thought there would be a benefit..
