Metro Ethernet

Hi,

We have 10Mbps Metro Ethernet link terminated in the FE.Problem is when the link is giving problem it is not switching over to the redundant path bcoz the FE0/1 is showing UP only when we remove the cable/shutdown the interface it is switching over.

Can you provide the solution when there is a metro link problem it should transfer to the redundant link.

Note : HSRP configured in FE0/0.

This is a common problem when your last mile is ethernet.

You need to use enhanced dobject tracking with HSRP for this.

I had the same probelm using EIGRP and MetroE. I used the following two commands on the ethernet interface to fine tune EIGRP hold and hello timers which worked great failing to a higher cost link. Not sure if this helps you with HSRP but good luck:

ip hello-interval eigrp 999 1

ip hold-time eigrp 999 4
