IOS upgrades using RME

I need to upgrade the IOS on a couple of MDS switches, 9509 and 9216.

Also on two 6509 switches.

I have Ciscoworks RME 4.0.5.

I have never upgraded either one of these switches models and have never used CiscoWorks to do IOS upgrades of any kind.

It makes me nervous to attempt to upgrade these switches via command line, much less scheduling a job and letting it run using CiscoWorks.

It seems like the things that could go wrong are many.

Are these valid concerns?

I understand that CiscoWorks will store the IOS package and then you schedule the job for upgrade, but I do not know of a step by step procedure on how to do this and the risks involved.

Is it pretty foolproof?

It's pretty much just following the steps in the GUI. Also, refer to this link:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/net_mgmt/ciscoworks_resource_manager_essentials/4.0.5/user/guide/swmgt.html

The application will warn you if there is a problem with the image or flash (memory) size/space.
