layer 2 or layer 3 issue ? (diagram added)

Hi everybody,

in order to connect a LAN to 02 redundant routers like the attached diagram, the question is when the port Gi0/1 in 2960 switch is active and Gi0/2 is blocked, all the 03 devices are reachable (respond to ping) and traffic goes through, but when port Gi0/1 is DOWN and the port Gi0/2 is active, the routers are not rechable from 2960 switch and no traffic is possible between switch and routers.

any suggestions ?

thanks.

You would need to set a virutal IP address for the two routers

e.g.

interface vlan 300

ip address 192.168.12.3

standby ip 192.168.12.1

This would create a virtual router which you then point the clients towards if either router fails the HSRP protocol will readvertise the address out the other router.

As posted above you need a gateway redundancy protocol like HSRP to work

Have a look at this link

happy new year !

i have configured HSRP between the two routers, but the problem is always the same,

any idea.

thanks.

Hi

Can you post configs of 2 routers and the switch.

Also when you configured HSRP did you make the default-gateway on the switch point to the Virtual IP address you configured under HSRP ?

Jon

Hi jon,

you can find the configurations in the attached file.
