Restoring back to a previous software version may affect the service as some management time is involved (eg. reloading the device). However it also depends on your present version of software image. Following links may help you

We are trying to load 7.2 on a box that has 8.0. My understanding is that when you revert back you will obviously lose anything new you have provisioned under the new code. But my problem is this box has never had 7.2 so it will not allow us to just activate it because it says you can't load a lower software than the current operating one. So I am now pretty sure when we try the "Revert" option we will lose everything. Thank you.
