%STANDBY-3-DUPADDR: Duplicate address

Unanswered Question

I am getting continuos error on my core switches where i am running hsrp.... the MAC reporting as Duplicate is the Virtual MAC of HSRP. I have read the Documentation where cisco is talking about STP & Mulfunctioning of the switch. I have tested for the STP loops but i did not find any. How i could check whether my switch is proper or malfunctioning, as i dont see any problem, the core switches are 4507R. find below the error message.

Hi,

The error message not necessary HSRP problem. Since the error received by the HSRP VIP MAC Address, this suggest a router or switch configuration problem that may cause the one or more of the following;

1. Momentary STP Loop

- make sure you follow recommended configuration to prevent/avoid STP Loop. i.e. assign primary and secondary root bridge

2. Etherchannel misconfiguration problem

- check the config and logs

3. Both routers in HSRP group is in Active state

- check both routers HSRP status and interface status whether its flapping. i.e. show standby, show ip int brief

Dandy
