ISL and 802.1q support on new IOS

does anyone perhaps know if ISL and 802.1q are supported in IOS s72033-adventerprisek9_wan-mz.122-18.SXF10a or where I can search for verification

Hi Johan,

It supports 802.1q for sure.

Now ISL is supported or not it is also hardware dependent. Some modules will support ISL and some may not.

It will be on a 6509

I understand this image is for Cat6500 switches but what I mean to say is that there are certain line cards/modules which is inserted in cat6509 chassis may not support ISL.

we are migrating from hybrid to native this weekend and we selected the IOS but want to make sure that the IOS we select will support both ISL and 801.q

Hi Johan,

Great that you posted the "sh mod" from your switch.

For example "WS-X6548-GE-TX" module which is installed on slot 3 will not support ISL trunking from release 12.2(17b)SXA and above so the one you are upgrading is 12.2(18) this means after upgrade this module will only support 802.1q

Same lies true for the line card WS-X6148-45AF.

I will recommend you to have a look at the release note and serach for the keyword ISL and it will update you which line cards will support ISL.

802.1q will be supported by all releases and on all line cards.
