If I try and change the IP address on the dialer/atm interface using SDM from Negotiated to Fixed I get 'enter a valid IP address/subnet'. The address I am entering is that which is negotiated and I use a mask of 255.255.255.255.
If I try to set the address using telnet I get a similar result.
Can anyone help?

Remove all configuration for the dialer/atm interface and then put the address for the same interface. If possible try to create a new dialer interface and put the address. Also make sure that this address is not conflicting with any other address which is already configured. Also both the end points should have address in same network.

Many thanks, I will have to try this when I next get down to the site. We are remote from it and I do not want to change the dialer config too much remotely.
