Is it possible to register a SIP load IP Phone on CCM over the Internet. I am looking at using CCM 5.X alongwith SBCs

Yes, assuming you have the correct ports open. In my opinion, it's much safer to use a VPN tunnel rather than opening up your CCM to internet traffic.
Hope this helps. If so, please rate the post.

Thanks a lot Brandon. Its true that there is a risk in opening CCM to the Internet, but some of our users want to have office extensions at home (and they are not okay with communicator >_< ). So I am checking out if this is possible. We are already running this for asterisk based phones.
Just wondering if you have any documents on how to do this with relevant information

One option is to deploy an 851/871 type router that will VPN back to the HQ. This would allow you to use a hard phone as opposed to IPC at these locations. If you need to register the phone over the internet you will need the SIP/Secure SIP ports (5060/5061) as well as the dynamic RTP ports open. Take a look at the following document.

Hey,
You can also use ASA5505 which include two POE ports to power on the IP Phone.

Have you tried this? What software did you run on the 5505?

Take a look at PhoneProxy

I heard that Cisco is discontinuing the PhoneProxy.
