I am trying to access our switch through the console port. I do not know the IP address or the password, so i will need to reset the password. I have the RJ 45 to serial adapter connected via cat 5 cable from the console port on the switch to the com port on the computer. For some reason i cannot get the two to talk. I have tried several different emulation programs and still no go. I have tried using Hyper terminal along with Telnet, and a few others i found online. I set the serial settings according to the manual. This switch is currently functioning, but there are 4 amber lights above ports 1-4. Even when nothing is connected to the switch. I'm not sure if this is affecting to console port or not, i doubt it because the switch is booting up and operating properly. Thanks for your help

Hi,
In order to connect to console port you must use a rollover cable. View http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst2900xl_3500xl/releasesa6/hig/2900xl/macable.html#wp4684
I hope this helps.
