Hi Tony,
To me it looks like to be some hardware failure. Can you please paste the output of "sh hardware"?

Ankur

Hi Tony,
Output did not give any specific indication of hardware failure but is this the only error message in logs or do you see some other messages also before you reloaded the switch?
Also this message intermittent or repeating?
Regards,
Ankur

Ankur,
In the past month, it happened 3 times and each time i had no choice but to reboot.
I didn't notice any other messages with the sh logging command.
i'm assuming it's a hardware problem. It's strange that Cisco web site doesn't have any explanation on this error?
thx again
Tony

Hi Tony,
Can you please paste the IOS version you are running on this swtch?

Ankur

Try configure
'logging buffered' and 'no logging console'
01-17-2008 09:23 AM
Ankur,
here you go,
IOS (tm) L3 Switch/Router Software (CAT2948G-IN-M), Version 12.0(25)W5(27)
01-17-2008 09:25 AM
yidabear,
What will those commands do exactly ?
thx
01-17-2008 10:04 AM
These commands will tell the OS to stop trying to dump the logging data out the console port at 9600bps, which appears to be what's happening.
01-17-2008 10:45 AM
Yidabear,
Just to make sure i understand you,
the command will pipe the errors to a NULL port and the switch will not be affected (perfomance issues) if this errors are being generated.
is that correct?
01-17-2008 10:53 AM
The commands should "pipe" the log messages to the switch's circular buffer that you'll be able to see with "show log", and stop the problem you described.
It'll help if you post the config of the switch, with any sensitive info removed.

Hi Tony,
I've just come across the same model switch with the exact same problem.
Did you ever resolve what the exact problem/fix was or did you just replace the switch?
Cheers,
Dale.
