Console question

I'm ashamed to ask this but i really dont have a clue:

when you connect to the router/switch through console cable - which software do you use in order to get to the IOS?

i mean - ok i've opened up CMD in windows - then what? i'm not supposed to telnet am i not?

Hi

If you are using a console connection you will need a terminal emulator. There are quite a few out there but windows usually ha a built in one called Hyperterminal - start menu -> Accessories -> hyperterminal.

Open this up, select the com port (usually com1) and then when it comes to the settings just change the baud rate to 9600.

That should work.
