What's connected on those ports ?

If you want to ping interface BVI 50, one of these ports need to be up.

at the present nothing is connected. i have a device connected to fa1/7 but am unable to ping that device. the device i am trying to ping is 10.10.1.1 shouldnt i be able to do this?

sorry im all confused the device i am trying to ping is connected to fa1/0.

That's Vlan 100. This router doesn't have any IP on Vlan 100 so it needs a device to route from Vlan 50 (which is the only IP from the switch) to Vlan 100.
